Gold Eagle Coin Specifications

Gold Eagle Specifications

The tables below present the coin specifications for the American Gold Eagle. Since the initial offering in 1986, the bullion and collector coins have been available in four different sizes with different nominal face values.

The one ounce coins have a face value of $50, the one-half ounce coins have a face value of $25, the one-quarter ounce coins have a face value of $10, and the one-tenth ounce coins have a face value of $5. While the face values represent a U.S. legal tender value, the Gold Eagles are more properly valued based on the spot price of gold.

The separate coin specifications for each weight American Gold Eagle are listed below in full. These apply to both bullion and collector versions of the coins.
